英語裡也有很多像我們的母語漢語裡一樣的成語、俗語或者說習語，叫idiom.

An idiom is a phrase or expression that typically presents a figurative, non-literal meaning attached to the phrase.

習語是一個短語或表達方式，通常表示附加到該短語的比喻性、非字面意義。

作為一個英專生，很慚愧，對很多習語都不是很熟悉。在跟孩子一起讀書的時候也會遇到，前幾天三年級的女兒做完形填空也遇到了。所以就計劃跟孩子一起學習一下。

現在開始用文章的方式也記錄一下，如果有不對的地方，期待大家一起讨論，共同進步。

1. A white lie 善意的謊言， 是一種小的、無害的、無關緊要的謊言,尤指出于禮貌或出于好意而說的謊話。

例句：

He told a (little) white lie as his excuse for missing the party.

他撒了一個（小）善意的謊言作為他錯過聚會的借口。

-Does this white sweater make me look fat?

-No. (No is a white lie).

2. Kill time:

to occupy oneself with some activity to make time pass quickly 忙于一些活動以使時間過得很快; 消磨時光

例句

We killed time watching the sailboats on the river.

我們觀看河上的帆船來消磨時間。

While I was waiting, I killed time counting the cars on the freight trains.

在等待的時候，我數貨運列車上的車廂消磨時間

3. Be all ears Eager to hear something, listening attentively 渴望聽到什麼，專心聆聽，洗耳恭聽

例句

Tell me about your first day at the new school—I'm all ears! 告訴我你在新學校的第一天，我洗耳恭聽

She had expected him to be all ears when she told him about her wedding plans. 當她告訴他她的婚禮計劃時，她原以為他會全神貫注地聽

The students were all ears to his speech. 同學們都非常認真地聽他的演講。

Everyone was all ears as soon as I mentioned a cash prize. 當我提到現金獎勵的時候，每個人都聽得非常認真。
