1、mistake… for… 把……誤認為……

例：He was mistakenfor the minister.

他被誤認為是牧師。

拓：by mistake 錯誤地 make a mistake 犯了一個錯誤

2、look forward to 盼望；期待；期望用

例：I am looking forward tovisiting the Disneyland in Shanghai.

我期待着參觀上海迪士尼樂園。

拓：to是介詞，後接名詞、代詞或動詞-ing形式作賓語。

3、be familiar to 對……來說是熟悉的

例：French is as familiar to him as English.

他對法語和英語一樣通曉。

拓：be familiar with 意為“對……熟悉”，如：I am not really familiar with the local laws. 實際上，我對當地的法規并不熟悉。

4、major in 主修

例：She majored in maths and physicsat university.

她在大學主修數學和物理。

5、get rid of 擺脫，除去；處理掉

例：I wish I could get ridof this cold.

我希望能擺脫這場感冒。

Let's get rid of this oldfurniture.

咱們把這件舊家具扔掉吧。

6、contribute to 有助于，促成；為……作出貢獻

例：Smoking contributes to lung cancer.

吸煙會導緻肺癌。

拓：make contribution to 為……作出貢獻

7、apply for 申請；請求

例：You may apply for tickets in person or by letter.

需要票者可親自前來申請亦可來信索取。

拓：apply to 意為“應用；适用于”，如：The rules of safe driving apply to everyone. 安全駕駛之規則适用于每個人。

8、make it 成功，做到；及時到達

例：We can make it if westart off now.

如果現在出發，我們還趕得上。

9、look over（仔細）檢查；細看

例：We must look over the house before we decide to rent it.

我們必須先查看一下這所房子再決定租不租。

10、to sb.'s delight 令某人高興的是

例：To our delight, our football team won.

令我們高興的是，我們的足球隊赢了。

拓：如果表示“令某人非常高興的是”，常用much to sb.'s delight或to sb.'s great delight。

to sb.'s disappointment 令某人失望的是

to sb.'s sorrow 令某人悲傷的是

to sb.'s surprise 令某人吃驚的是；令某人驚奇的是

to sb.'s disappointment 令某人失望的是

11、keep fit 保持健康

例：I keep fit by running everymorning.

我通過每天早上跑步來保持健康。

拓：keep/stay healthy 保持健康

12、suffer from 遭受；因……而蒙受損害

例：Most of the important cities of the world suffer from traffic jams.

世界上大多數大城市都遭受交通堵塞之患。

13、sum up 總結，概括

例：Pleasesum up what you said just now.

請把你剛才說的總結一下。

拓：to sum up 總之，總而言之，綜上所述

14、put off 推遲，延期；讓人下車

例：Never put off till tomorrow what you can do today.

今日事今日畢。

15、in existence 存在的；現有的；現存的

例：Many things are no longer in existence.

許多東西都已經不存在了。

拓：come into existence 産生；成立
