英語中，部分以-ie結尾的動詞的-ing形式必須改ie為y再加-ing。例如：
die → dying tie → tying lie → lying
考點二：
①lie用作不規則動詞(lie，lay，lain)時，是不及物動詞，表示“躺”，“(東西)平放”，“位于”等意，描述的是主語“躺在、位于”某地。
He's still lying in bed. 他還躺在床上。
He felt tired, so he went and lay down for a rest.他感到疲勞，所以去躺下休息了。
His books lay open on the desk when I went in.我進去時，發現他的書平攤在書桌上。
The city lies in the north of China. 那座城市位于中國的北部。
②lie作動詞時，也可意為“撒謊”，過去式和過去分詞是規則的，均為lied。lie也可用作名詞，意為“謊言”。例如：
Don’t lie to me.不要向我撒謊。
The boy told a lie to me. 這個男孩向我撒了謊。
③lay不規則動詞(lay，laid，laid)，是及物動詞，表示“放置、下蛋”等多種意思，後面必須接賓語。描述的是主語把賓語“放置”在某地。
He laid his hand on my shoulder. 他把手放在我的肩上。
Mother laid the baby gently on the bed. 母親把嬰兒輕輕放在床上。
John laid the table. 約翰擺好餐具。
The hen is laying an egg. 母雞在下蛋。
