Hi! Today we are going to talk about the Past Progressive tense. Don’t worry, it is quite the same as the Present Progressive tense.

今天我們講過去進行時，不要擔心，它和現在進行時幾乎是一樣。你可把過去進行時看作是現在進行時的一種變化形式，區别隻是應用場景全都成為往事，因此be動詞也要用過去式。如果你忘了現在進行時，建議你先回頭複習下，也兩三分鐘時間。

Be動詞過去式 現在分詞

例如：

I was working out then.

我當時正在鍛煉。

• 當時正在發生的事

I was living in the village before 2000.

2000年之前，我一直住在農村。

They were working on music last night.

昨晚他們在搞音樂創作。

這個時間點也可以是過去某件事情發生的時候，通常用when，while，as等連詞引導

The plane was just taking off when we arrived at the airport.

當我們到達機場的時候，飛機剛好起飛。

My dad was playing a video game while I was doing homework.

我在寫作業的時候，我爸在玩電子遊戲。

• 暫時情況（曾經是這樣）

I was growing fast when I was a teenager.

我十幾歲的時候長得很快。

Ken was working in a restaurant while he was in college.

Ken 讀大學的時候在一家餐館打工。

• 計劃安排（以前安排的）

Jane was taking an exam the next morning. So she slept early the night before.

簡第二天上午要考試，因此她前一天晚上早早就睡了。

He didn’t know whether she was coming.

他（當時）不知道她是否會來。

• 惱人的重複行為（過去的事）

Roger was always speeding before he crashed his car.

羅傑在撞車之前總是超速行駛。

Bob was often scaring girls with spiders when he was a kid.

鮑勃小時候經常用蜘蛛吓唬女孩子。

• 婉轉的請求（比一般過去時更客氣）

I was wondering if you could give me a lift.

我想知道你是否可以讓我搭車。

I was wondering if you would like to go to the movies with me.

我想知道你是否願意跟我一起去看電影。
