The next planet was inhabited by a tippler(醉漢). This was a very short visit, but it plunged the little prince into deep dejection. (這次訪問時間很短暫，但令小王子非常傷心)

"What are you doing there?" he said to the tippler, whom he found settled down in silence before a collection of empty bottles and also a collection of full bottles. (醉漢默默地坐在那裡，身後一堆酒瓶，有的已經空了，有的還是滿滿的)

"I am drinking," replied the tippler, with a lugubrious(adj （故意裝出來的）悶悶不樂的，悲哀的) air.

"Why are you drinking?" demanded the little prince.

"So that I may forget," replied the tippler.

"Forget what?" inquired the little prince, who already was sorry for him. (小王子覺得有些可憐這個酒鬼)

"Forget that I am ashamed," the tippler confessed, hanging his head. ("為了忘卻羞恥"，這個醉漢垂下腦袋坦白道)

"Ashamed of what?" insisted the little prince, who wanted to help him. (小王子很想幫他一把，"那你羞愧什麼事呢")

"Ashamed of drinking!" (喝酒讓我覺得很羞恥)The tippler brought his speech to an end, and shut himself up in an impregnable ( adj. 無法攻取的；不受影響的；要塞堅固的；)silence. (醉漢說完便倒下去了，隻留下這無盡的沉默)

And the little prince went away, puzzled.

"The grown−ups are certainly very, very odd," (這些大人們真的是非常非常的奇怪)he said to himself, as he continued on his journey.
