是祭祀竈王爺的節日。

小年到了，除夕就不遠了！

因此我們也把小年當做是整個

春節慶祝活動的開始和伏筆。

“小年”畢竟是中國傳統文化節日，

所以外國人肯定不太清楚。

但學了這麼多年英語的你，

知道“小年”用英語怎麼說嗎？

怎麼和外國人介紹“小年”？

小編找到了幾個“小年”的翻譯版本，

和大家一起分享一下。

1. a lunar year（in which the last year month has 29 days）小年

lunar ['luːnə(r)]農曆

首先，讓我們看下在《漢英詞典》中出現的對于小年的解釋：

festival on the 23rd or 24th of the 12th month of the lunar year, when sacrifices are made to the kitchen god （臘月二十三或二十四的慶祝日，舊俗這天祭竈）。也可表示成a festival that falls on the 23rd or 24th of the 12th month of the lunar year.

意思指農曆臘月是小建的年份，也就是說，農曆臘月隻有29天，沒有年三十的年份。

2. Minor/ Little Chinese New Year：小年

還有人建議可以用Minor/Little New Year，但New Year顯然不是春節的意思，因此建議用Minor/Little Spring Festival 或Minor/Little Chinese New Year的說法。

再或者直接使用拼音Xiao Nian後接解釋性翻譯是比較通用的譯法。

3. off year [ˈɔːf jɪr]：[口語] 非大選年

“off year” 是目前使用最普遍的翻譯，但是這個翻譯卻并不貼切，因為off year在英文中常用來表示“非大選年”的意思，還指果樹、竹子的欠收年，又稱 lean year，因此off year的含義可以說與我們中國小年的含義完全搭不上邊兒。
