matter n. 事情 尤其強調麻煩

children n. 孩子們 （child 的複數）

childhood 童年 -hood 後綴 通常表達一種狀态，做兒童的狀态 my childhood 我的童年

motherhood 做母親的那種狀态 → 為人母 fatherhood 為人父 neighborhood 街坊

Tired adj. 累，疲乏 tire n. 疲勞

Well, I’m dog-tired. 非常累，累死了。（想象狗累得吐舌頭時的樣子。）

I’m tired of the teacher. be tired of 對什麼感到很累，引申為“厭煩，讨厭”。

Lily is tired of her boyfriend. sick 生病，難受，尤指惡心的那種。

I’m sick of it. 我特煩那事。 be sick of 一見到…就惡心，引申為“讨厭”。

boy n. 男孩

Boy! 我的天啊！ 單獨使用并大寫首字母，可以充當一個感歎詞。

Thirsty adj. 渴, 幹旱, 渴望的 (for, after連用）渴望的，熱望的 thirst n.渴,幹旱，渴望

Mum n. 媽媽 （兒語）

sit down 坐下 兩個爆破音“t d”在一起時第一個爆破音“t”失去爆破。

right adj. 好，可以 all right = ok

ice cream 冰淇淋（有時可數，有時不可數）

cream 乳酪, 奶油, (護膚)面霜 scream尖聲叫

The boy was screaming with pain. 這男孩痛得尖叫起來。

ice 不可數名詞 ice tea 冰茶 icy ['aisi] a. 冰涼的，冰爽的 名詞後加“y”的這種變化形式多為該名詞的形容詞。

It’s a private matter.

He’s not very interested in financial [fai'nænʃəl, ,fi-] matters.

② n. 麻煩事，困難

What's the matter? = Tell me what’s wrong? = What’s wrong?

What’s the matter with sb.

What’s the matter with you（and your girlfriend）today? 你今天怎麼回事？

What's the matter with the children / my watch / your T-shirt?

It doesn't matter. 沒關系

It matters. 有關系

Does it matter? 有關系嗎？可以嗎？

★thirsty adj. 渴

① adj. 渴的，口幹的

② adj. （工地等）幹旱的

a dry and thirsty land 幹旱的土地

③ adj. 渴望的，渴求的（for / after）

The students there are thirsty for knowledge. 那裡的學生有強烈的求知欲。

[語法]

There be 句型

there be 句型：表示某處有某物

there is 可數名詞的單數/不可數名詞

There is a pen, two books and a knife on the desk.

課桌上有一枝鋼筆、兩本書和一把小刀。（第一個并列名詞是單數，所以用is）

there are 可數名詞的複數形式

常見方位介詞：in、on、over、under

on：在…上面，接觸物體表面

over：越過，垂直上方，不接觸表面

in：在…裡面，物體裡面

to：往，向，表示去向方向

into：進入…裡面，從外到裡進入的過程

out of：在…外，從裡面出來

across：橫穿[在物體表面橫穿]，從平面穿過

through：從裡面（中間）穿過

under：在……下面

deside：在……旁邊

near：在……附近

between：在……兩者之間

among 在…中間（兩者以上）

over：從斜面穿過

介詞用法：

1.跟在be動詞之後

2.跟在一些不及物動詞之後

[課文]

MOTHER: What's the matter, children?

GIRL: We're tired …

BOY: … and thirsty, Mum.

MOTHER: Sit down here.

Are you all right now?

BOY: No, we aren't.

MOTHER: Look!

There's an ice cream man. 賣冰淇淋的人 注意這種表達

倒裝句 an ice cream man 為主語，表語there在句首。也稱there be句型，表示“那兒有…”。

MOTHER: Two ice cream, please.

Here you are, children.

CHILDREN: Thanks, Mum.

GIRL: These ice creams are nice.

MOTHER: Are you all right now?

CHILDREN: Yes, we are, thank you!
