那麼怎麼區分呢？當 less than 用來表示比較時，後面接的是數字等之類的表方式，而整體的 less than 後面通常接形容詞性成分；而且另外一個很重要的參考是 than 是連詞或介詞，因此作比較時，後面隻能接名詞性成分，例如：

I think he was less than honest with me.

我覺得他對我一點也不誠實。

還有如家喻戶曉的 more or less，此時它也是一個副詞，意為“幾乎，差不多，大概”等，例如：

They've more or less finished the meeting.

他們差不多已經結束了會議。

The boat could take 20 passengers, more or less.

這艘船大概可以載20名乘客。
