首先我們如果把love當動詞，child當名詞看，它說的确實是“愛孩子”，但通常child前都會有一個修飾詞，比如，

A father loves his child.

一個父親愛他的孩子。

I love that child.

我愛那孩子。

Mr. Donatello and Mr. Fleiger obviously love the child.

唐納特羅先生和弗雷格先生深愛這個孩子。

而當直接使用love child這一搭配，中間沒有修飾詞時，love child則作為一個名詞詞組使用，它的英語釋義是“a child whose parents are not married to each other”。意思表達的就很明顯了，love child指的是“父母沒有結婚生下的孩子”。

如果記者把一個人稱為“love child”，意思是說這個人是兩個從未結過婚的人因戀情(婚外戀)而生的。
