漢語在數詞前加“約”“約計”、“大約”、“大概”等詞，或在數詞後加“左右”、“上下”等詞表示。

相應地，英語則在數詞前加 about, around，some，approximately，roughly，more or less，in the neighbourhood of等詞或詞組，或在數詞後加or so，or thereabout，in the rough等詞組表示。

英語在數詞前加more than ，over，above，upwards of等詞或詞組表示，或用在數詞後加and more，odd，and odd等詞或詞組表示。

漢語用“到”、“至”等詞連接兩個數詞，或用“介于…之間”表示。

英語用from…to;between…and…表示。

英語用or連接兩個相鄰數字來表示。注意“三三兩兩”是特殊的“相鄰”的數目。表示“兩個或兩個以上”等，英語在數詞後加or more表示。
