2019年，我國污染防治攻堅戰取得關鍵進展，主要污染物排放持續下降。2019年前11個月，全國337個地級及以上城市PM2.5濃度為34微克/立方米，同比下降2.9%。In 2019, China has made significant progress in fighting pollution. Emissions of major pollutants continued to decline last year, and the PM2.5 density in 337 prefecture-level cities shrank 2.9 percent year on year at 34 micrograms per cubic meter in the first 11 months last year, according to the Ministry of Ecology and Environment.

國務院2018年印發的《打赢藍天保衛戰三年行動計劃》提出，到2020年，二氧化硫、氮氧化物排放總量分别比2015年下降15%以上；PM2.5未達标地級及以上城市濃度比2015年下降18%以上，地級及以上城市空氣質量優良天數比率達到80%，重度及以上污染天數比率比2015年下降25%以上；提前完成“十三五”目标任務的省份，要保持和鞏固改善成果；尚未完成的，要确保全面實現“十三五”約束性目标；北京市環境空氣質量改善目标應在“十三五”目标基礎上進一步提高。
