The origin of International Children's Day goes back to 1925, when representatives from different countries met in Geneva, Switzerland to convene the first "World Conference for the Wellbeing of Children".國際兒童節起源于1925年，當時來自不同國家的代表齊聚瑞士日内瓦首次舉行“兒童幸福國際大會”。
After the conference, some governments around the world designated a day as Children's Day to highlight children's issues. There was no specific date recommended, so countries used whatever date was most relevant to their culture.大會過後，世界部分國家政府指定一個日期為“兒童節”，以關注兒童問題。由于沒有一個專門設定的節日，所以很多國家根據自己的文化，選取一個最相關的日期為兒童節。
The date of 1 June used by many ex-Soviet countries as 'The International Day for Protection of Children' was established on 1 June 1950 following the Women's International Democratic Federation's congress in Moscow that took place in 1949.1949年，國際民主婦女聯合會代表大會在莫斯科舉行，會上确定将許多前蘇聯國家沿用的6月1日“國際保護兒童日”定為“國際兒童節”，自1950年起實施。
