想想看，馬拉松賽跑如果你跑全馬的話，可是有42.195千米啊——名副其實的長跑了。

不過，在英語中，“Long run”可不是“長跑”，“short run”也不是“短跑”啊！

從字面上看，long run和short run像是“長跑”和“短跑”，隻不過這裡的run咱們不能理解為跑步，更像是某一段時間。

看看英文解釋：Used to describe what will happen in a long or short period of time in the future，也就是用來描述在将來很長一段時間内或很短一段時間内，将會發什麼。

因此，long run和short run是指長期和短期，有時候也寫作long term和short term。

① This strategy can make the business more efficient in the long run.

從長期來看，這個策略可以讓業務更有效。

② We are very pleased with the short run，especially the performance of this quarter.

我們對眼下（短期）感到很滿意，尤其是這個季度的業績。

那“長跑”到底用英語怎麼說呢？

長跑，也就是意味“距離比較長的跑步”，所以我們可以說成long-distance race or long-distance run（long-distance表示長途的，長距離的意思）。

① The runner with the greatest endurance can win long-distance race.

有非凡耐力的選手才能赢得長跑冠軍。

② It is surprising that Tom won a silver medal in the long-distance race.

湯姆在長跑比賽中赢得了銀牌，這真是太讓人驚訝了。

既然“長跑”叫long-distance run，那“短跑”是不是short-distance run？你要這麼描述，也不能說錯。

隻不過，在英語中，短跑有專門的叫法——sprint或者dash，意思是短跑，沖刺跑，短程競速跑。
