先來看一個例句：

etc 是拉丁語 “et cetera”的縮寫，意思是“等等/諸如此類”，同“and so on”。

這兩句話可以寫成：

例句：

The Summer Olympics is composed of a variety of sports (e.g., gymnastics, swimming, and tennis).

夏季奧運會由多個運動項目組成（比如體操、遊泳和田徑）。

e.g. 是拉丁語“Exempli gratia”的縮寫，意思是“比如/打比方”，同“such as”、“for example”。

這一句可以改寫成：

The Summer Olympics is composed of a variety of sports (such as gymnastics, swimming, and tennis).

The Summer Olympics is composed of a variety of sports (for example， gymnastics, swimming, and tennis).

i.e

例句：

Only one city, i.e., London, has hosted the Summer Olympics three times.

隻有一個城市，就是倫敦，舉辦過三次夏季奧林匹克運動會。

i.e是拉丁語“id est”的縮寫，是“具體是指”、“詳細地說”的意思，同“that is”、“specifically”、“namely”。

因此這句話可以改成：

Only one city, that is London, has hosted the Summer Olympics three times.

Only one city, specifically London, has hosted the Summer Olympics three times.

Only one city, namely London, has hosted the Summer Olympics three times.
