注：動詞make原是“造成”的意思，又可作“發展或發達的過程。成功的原因或手段”解，例句中用的便是這個意思。making還可以加複數， 而構成“要素”，“素質”之意，例如He has in him the makings of a poet.(他有詩人的素質。）
