1． 在一日三餐前不用The

例：There are four seasons in a year:spring,summer,autumn and winter.

3． 在國名及地名簡稱前不用The

例：China ，America，England，Tian An Men Square

4． 在星期，月份前不用The

例：in 1997,in January , on Sunday

5． 複數可數名詞表示一般意義時前不用The

例：Horses are animals.

6． 在人名及稱呼語前不用The

例：Tom , Alice

7． 在表示頭銜或職務的名詞前不用The

例：Good morning，sir！

8． 在用This,that,my,your,some,any,no every,each,whose,which等修飾的名詞前不用The

例：This pen is mine.

9． 在表示棋類，球類運動的名詞前不用The

例：We play football ( basketball, pingpong , volleyball ) after class.

c 在某些固定搭配的短語中不用The

例：at night in hospital住院 in bed 卧床

特别注意：以下這些專有名詞前必須加“the”

1. 天地日月：the sun， the moon ，the stars， the earth

2. 星辰山脈、江河湖海、海灣海峽： the Qolmolangma， the Changjiang River ， the Huanghe River ， the West Lake ，the Black Sea

3. 各種樂器：play the piano ，play the violin

4. 國家全稱：The People's Republic of China（中華人民共和國）

The United States of America（美利堅合衆國）

5. 某些組織機構： the United Nations（聯合國）

6. 某些建築：the Workers' Gymnasium （工人體育館）

7. 報紙：The Times（泰晤士報）
