S: 老師，形容詞與副詞最高級前必須加the嗎？

T:通常，形容詞最高級前要加the, 但下列情形可不加the:

1. 副詞最高級前；（the可加可不加）

He runs (the) fastest in his class.

2. 形容詞最高級作表語且不與别人比較；（此時不加the）

I am busiest on weekends.

3.形容詞最高級前已有限定詞，如名詞所有格、物主代詞時；(不加the)

She is my best friend.

Shanghai is China’s largest city.

4. 當most表“非常”時，前加a。

(注意句意）

He is a most outstanding singer.

(改錯或填空時，切勿隻想到the most表最高級，注意a most表“very”。）

S: 明白！原來副詞最高級前的the可加可不加。那比較級前什麼時候用the呢?

T: 三種句型中，比較級前須加the:

1. the 比較級......，the 比較級.......句型；

The busier he is, the happier he feels.

The more, the better.

2. the 比較級 of the two.......句型；

He is the cleverer of the two brothers.

Of the two brothers, He is the cleverer.

(of the two 也可置于句首）

3. the 比較級 名詞，即:比較級修飾名詞作定語時。

Which is the larger city, Beijing or NewYork?

Which is larger, Beijing or NewYork?

S: 老師，劣等比較時，less後加形容詞/副詞原級，此時形容詞副詞可以是單音節詞嗎？

T: 當然可以。此時形容詞副詞沒有單音節或多音節的限制，是原形就可以。因less本身就有副詞詞性，副級修飾形容詞或副詞沒有音節限制。

此用法需注意：less 形/副原級 than....

相當于 not as/so 形/副原級 as，比如：

He is not so/as tall as me.=

He is less tall than me.=

I am taller than him.=

He is shorter than l.

他沒有我高。

練一練：

譯：我比他起的早。

S: I got up earlier than him/he.=

He got up less early than me/I.=

He didn’t get up as/so early as me/I.=

He got up later than me/I.
