昨天給大家介紹了一個"讓我們為某人喝彩"的短語，然後就有細心的同學給我提出了另一個非常容易混淆的常用口語~give it up for somebody, 提得真好！如果不細看上下文的話，的确很容易讓人理解為“為某人放棄什麼”，但實際上這也是一句非常地道的口語表達，就是“讓我們用熱烈的掌聲來歡迎某人上台（表演或發言等）”的意思，等同于 "let's all give a warm welcome ...(讓我們熱烈歡迎……)"
