　　一、break up 後不加賓語，例如：

　　1、粉碎；破碎

　　The ship broke up on the rocks.

　　船觸礁撞碎了。

　　The falling rocket broke up before it hit the ground.

　　墜落的火箭在落地前就解體了。

　　延申詞義，某人變得虛弱；垮掉

　　He was breaking up under the strain.

　　過度的勞累使他快要垮了。

　　2、（婚姻）結束

　　Their marriage has broken up.

　　他們的婚姻已經破裂。

　　She had a string of lovers before her marriage finally broke up.

　　3、散開；解散

　　The meeting broke up at eleven oclock.

　　A neighbour asked for the music to be turned down and the party broke up.

　　When do you break up for Christmas?

　　7、break up (with sb) （同某人）絕交

　　Shes just broken up with her boyfriend.

　　We broke up in March, after an argument.

　　1、拆開；打散

　　The ship was broken up for scrap metal.

　　船被拆解成為廢鐵。

　　Because there was only one cookie left, I broke it up so that each kid could have a piece.

　　2、結束（關系等）；關閉（公司等）

　　They decided to break up the partnership.
