1. gold與golden

   gold的意思是“黃金;金制的”,golden的意思是“金色的”。許多同學容易把他們搞混,不加區别的使用。實際上,gold 強調的是物質,而golden強調的是顔色，還可以引申為很好的。例如,媽媽手上戴的金戒指,是純金的哦,而不是廉價的金色仿制品,所以金戒指應該是“gold ring”,而不是“golden ring”啊，再來組幾組詞對比一下：

   a gold watch 一隻純金的手表 a gold mine 一座金礦 golden hair 金色頭發 golden age 黃金時代

   特别注意：金魚是goldfish. 金牌是gold medal 金冕golden crown

2. historic與historical

   historic的意思是“有曆史意義的，曆史上有名的”。 historical的意思是“曆史上的，曆史學的"，來對比一下：

   a historic character 曆史名人 a historic meeting 曆史性的會晤 a historic building 具有曆史意義的建築

   a historical novel 曆史小說 a historical book關于曆史的書籍

   注意：有時同一個名詞，用兩者修飾都可以，但含義不同：我們說曆史上某一次戰鬥是 a historic event，那是說這次戰鬥在曆史上有名或有影響；同時也可以說它是 a historical event，那是說它在曆史上的确發生過。

3. economic和economical

   economic 的意思是”經濟上的，經濟學的“。economical的意思是”經濟的，節儉的“，來對比一下：

   economic problems.經濟問題 a bad economic state 糟糕的經濟狀況

   an economical car 經濟型轎車 an economical wife 節儉的妻子

4. healthy和healthful

healthy 有兩個意思，一是指“人本身健康的”，二是指“有益于健康的”。如：

Good food keeps you healthy. 好的飲食使你健康。

Cycling is certainly healthier than driving. 騎車肯定比開車有利于健康。

healthful通常隻指"有益于健康的"如：

The air at seaside is healthful to us. 海邊的空氣對我們的健康有益。

5.considerate和considerable

considerate表示"體貼的，周到的”，considerable表示“值得考慮的，相當多的”

He is always considerate towards old people.他總是體貼老年人。

A considerable sum of money has been put into the project. 相當可觀的一筆款項已經投入到這個工程。

6.respectful和respectable

respectful表示“尊敬的，有禮貌的”，respectable表示“令人尊敬的，高尚的”

The little girl is respectful towards others.小女孩對他人都很有禮貌。

The respectable old man has contributed a lot to the building of his hometown.這個令人尊敬的老人為自己的家鄉風險了很多。

7.practical和 practicable

Practical的涵義是“實際的”、“實用的”，它指具有實際的經驗、某事物切合實際或實際可用，可用于人或事物。如：practical English實用英語； practical chemistry應用化學，a practical man講求實際的.。

Practicable的涵義是“可用的”、“可實行的”（feasible），它指某個項目或計劃有實行的可能，但尚未加以發展或試驗，隻用于事物.如：

I don't think it is something practicable.

我認為它不是切實可行的。

The plan is practicabel. 這個計劃可行。

8,momentary和momentous

momentary表示“霎那的，短暫的”，momentous表示“重大的，重要的”

Her feeling of fear was only momentary. 她的恐懼感隻是瞬間的。

It‘s a momentous decision whether she is going to marry the young man .她要做出重大決定，是否嫁給這個年輕人。
