很多英語牛人都提倡背誦英文，但在不理解的基礎上進行的死記硬背，對英語思維的培養是沒有很大作用的。在《如何學透一篇課文》中我們總結了很多方法，其中最重要的就是句型分析。下面進行舉例說明。
The old man said→S V結構，很簡單。
If引導的複雜句中第1個子句：I win the game→S V O結構。
複雜句中第2個子句也是S V O結構，具體如下：
複雜句中第3、4句是減化句：
two for the second → I'd like two grains of rice for the second square of the chessboard.
four for the third → I'd like four grains of rice for the third square of the chessboard.
因為I'd like ... grains of rice ... square of the chessboard.這些和前子句是重複的，為了簡潔，把它删掉，剩下數量相關的關鍵詞。
複雜句中第5句估計不少學生翻譯不出來，and then是個連接詞，double the amount代替“數量 grains ”，each of the rest of the squares代替“第幾 square”。
剩下幾句簡單，就不細說了。
句型分析後，對句子的結構和内容都有了充分的理解，背誦課文自然就簡單很多了。
