北京理工大學（北理工，Beijing Institute of Technology），創建于1940年，坐落于北京市，是中國共産黨創辦的第一所理工科大學，隸屬于中華人民共和國工業和信息化部，副部級建制，是全國重點大學，首批進入世界一流大學建設高校行列，也是首批進入國家“211工程”“985工程”的大學。該校入選“高等學校學科創新引智計劃”“高等學校創新能力提升計劃”“卓越工程師教育培養計劃”“國家建設高水平大學公派研究生項目”“國家大學生創新性實驗計劃”“國家級大學生創新創業訓練計劃”“新工科研究與實踐項目”，是中國政府獎學金來華留學生接收院校、高等學校科技成果轉化和技術轉移基地，工業和信息化部高校聯盟、中國人工智能教育聯席會成員。

北京理工大學前身是1940年成立于延安的自然科學院，曆經晉察冀邊區工業專門學校、華北大學工學院等辦學時期，1951年定名為北京工業學院。1981年，被國務院批準為全國首批具有博士、碩士學位授權的單位。1988年更名為北京理工大學。

Beijing Institute of Technology (Beijing Institute of Technology), founded in 1940, is located in Beijing. It is the first university of science and engineering founded by the Communist Party of China. It is a national key university under the administration of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, PRC at the vice-ministerial level. It is also the first group of universities to be listed in the national "Project 211" and "Project 985". The university has been selected into the "Discipline Innovation Introduction Plan of Higher Education", "Innovation Ability Enhancement Plan of Higher Education", "Excellent Engineer Education and Training Plan", "State-sponsored Graduate Program of National Construction of High-level University", "National Innovation Experiment Plan for College Students", "National Innovation and Entrepreneurship Training Plan for College Students", "New Engineering Research and Practice Project". It is a host institution of Chinese Government Scholarship for international students, a base for scientific and technological achievements transformation and technology transfer of universities, and a member of the University Alliance of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology and the China Artificial Intelligence Education Joint Conference.

Beijing Institute of Technology (BIT), formerly known as the Academy of Natural Sciences founded in Yan 'an in 1940, was renamed Beijing Institute of Technology in 1951 after the Shanxi Chaha-Hebei Border Region Industrial Special School and North China University Engineering College. In 1981, it was approved by the State Council as one of the first batch of units with doctor's and master's degrees. 1988 It was renamed Beijing Institute of Technology.
