cold & cool

先說一下我們最熟悉的兩個詞：

cold adj. 指寒冷的，冷的，（食物、飲料）涼的、冷的

e.g. I’m cold. Turn the heating up.

我覺得冷，把暖氣溫度調高一點。

cool adj. 指涼爽的、涼快的

e.g. We found a cool place to sit.

我們找了一個涼快的地方坐下來。

lukewarm 和 tepid 在含義和用法上無實際區别，指微溫的，不冷不熱的，溫吞的

e.g. Her coffee was now lukewarm.

她的咖啡變得微溫。

chilly adj. 【非正式】指天氣或地方寒冷，人感覺冷，多用來形容使人感到不舒服的寒冷

e.g. Bring a coat. It might turn chilly later.

帶件大衣，過一會兒天氣可能會變冷。

e.g. I was feeling chilly.

我感到冷得難受。

e.g. Shall we close the window? This room is getting chilly.

我們可以關上窗戶嗎？這間屋子變得有點冷了。

frosty

adj. 寒冷的 尤形容冷到結霜的天氣

名詞形式是frost，意思是霜，極冷的天氣

e.g. He breathed in the frosty air.

他吸進冰冷的空氣。

nippy adj. 【口語】天氣或空氣較冷的

e.g. a nippy wind 刺骨的寒風

e.g The air was nippy outside.

外面天氣相當冷。

其中，nip 是動詞，指寒氣、風等傷害，損害

e.g. The icy wind nipped at our faces.

寒風刺疼了我們的臉。

bitterly cold 指的是令人感到痛苦地冷

e.g It’s a bitterly cold and dry morning but the sky looks beautiful.

這個清晨天氣既寒冷又幹燥，但天空看起來非常美。

freezing

adj. 指極冷的、冰凍的、冰點以下的

e.g. I’m freezing!

我要凍僵了。

brass monkey weather

或者 brass monkeys

英式口語，形容天氣非常冷，天氣冷到銅猴子雕像的尾巴都給凍掉了。

e.g. I don’t think it’s a good idea to swim in the lake tonight. It’s brass monkeys out there.

我覺得今晚在湖裡遊泳這個主意不怎麼好。外面冷死了。
